Kirkdale is a sheep grazing property, situated at Murrumbateman, New South Wales, between Canberra and Yass, and approximately 35 kms north-east of Canberra. The property is just over 1,000 acres (414 hectares) in size, with the creek valley flats cleared for grassy pasture land, and the surrounding hills made up of native eucalypt bushland.

Kirkdale is one of the last large properties in the area, as development has resulted in land subdivision around the village in the last 20 years. These small land holdings, of between 2 and 5 acres, are now within one kilometer of the Kirkdale boundary.

Due to drought and poor wool prices, many wool-producing properties have disappeared. Grape growing and wine making have replaced farming businesses in the district, producing the now-famous “Canberra District Cool Climate Wines”. The Kirkdale property has been in the hands of the Butt family for several generations, and is now run by Alison Butt and Tom Subi.
